Charity Supper and Race Evening

Charity Supper and Race Evening
Norwich Theatre Royal – Wednesday February 12th 2014

We have, over the years, staged many events for various Charities and to start 2014 with a bang we have decided, in association with the Norwich Theatre Royal, to stage a Grand Charity Supper and Race Evening.  This is something that has not been tried by the Theatre before and we are lucky enough to be allowed to take over the whole Theatre for the event on the evening.  The proceeds from the evening will go towards buying an electric piano to use on the Norfolk Schools Project.

This twice-yearly 12 week music project links with the curriculum to encourage and develop creativity, team work, pride and confidence.  200 NorfolkPrimary School children participate each year and perform their own mini operas on stage at the Theatre Royal to an audience of around 1,000.  All work is provided to schools free of charge.

We have a limited number of tickets to sell with a maximum of 400 and the cost per person will be £10.00 to include a hot supper before the racing.  There will also be limited opportunities to sponsor both individual horses and races on the evening, further details which will be sent out in due course.  The tickets will be sold on a “first come first served” basis and this will be an ideal opportunity to have a great night out with friends and family and I am hoping the atmosphere in the auditorium will be brilliant during the racing.

There is the opportunity to bet on each race of course and there will be a pay bar open too.  I regret that unaccompanied children will not be allowed however.  The tickets will be officially on sale from 2nd January 2014 but I am compiling a reserved list if you wish to put your name down to attend.  I will then collect entry fees after the 2nd January.

I hope you will be able to join us with this groundbreaking event and if you require any further information or wish to register your interest in attending please contact me at gjk@rogers-norton.co.uk or 01603 675618.

The booking form can be downloaded here.

May I also take this opportunity to wish you a very peaceful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Breakfast Club

We have just held our latest Breakfast meeting at the Theatre Royal when our speaker was Anthony Grey O.B.E. who gave us an insight into his captivity by the Chinese in the Cultural Revolution and the effects it has had on his life since.

Children from Nelson's Journey meet the Panto Stars

This is the third year running that Rogers & Norton have taken children from Nelson's Journey to the Panto rather than sending out Christmas cards to everyone and we are delighted to report that the evening was a huge success with 30 children able to come along despite the fact that they are going through a very sad period in their young lives due to bereavement in some way.

We had a special tea party at the Theatre where the children were able to meet the Cast of the Show and it was wonderful that virtually every member of the cast gave up their time to entertain the children before the performance for which we are very grateful. Click here to see some pictures taken on the evening which give you a flavour of the event too.

The Theatre were excellent with their support and help on the evening as always and the Leeds Building Society donated goody bags for all the children to take home with them too. The Norfolk magazine photographer was there too along with the EDP reporter so hopefully the Charity will get some good media coverage to help their fundraising efforts.

We do arrange many varying promotional events throughout the year to try and put something back into the community and to help our chosen Charity, but this is by far the most rewarding evening of them all. To see the delight and joy in the childrens faces on the evening is a great reward for us all and we will continue to support the evening in future years.

Nelson's Journey do some wonderful work with children who have suffered with bereavement with some truly committed staff and volunteers and you can find more information about the Charity by visiting www.nelsonsjourney.org.uk.

If you would like more information about this event or other Rogers & Norton charitable events please visit our website www.rogers-norton.co.uk or contact me on o1603 675618 or gjk@rogers-norton.co.uk.

With kind regards.

Charity Golf Day in aid of MacMillan Nurses

We held our annual Charity Golf Day on Friday 14th September 2012 at Bawburgh in aid of MacMillan Nurses and we hope to have raised a significant sum of money for this very worthy charity, which we have now supported for 14 years.
We did arrange for Richard Aldridge to take photographs on the course and he has ended up taking over 500! There are far too many to view here but if you click here you can see a large selection of them in all their glory!  The “Beat the Pro” Competition seemed to be received very well too and we are grateful to Mark Spooner at Bawburgh for helping us out with this. We are told he is an excellent teacher of golf if anyone wishes to book any lessons with him.

We really appreciate the support that we receive for this event from local business and individuals alike and we understand that financially it is impossible to support every worthy event and we feel very privileged that our clients and contacts choose to help MacMillan Nurses by attending our Golf Day.
We did have three auction prizes on the day and have sold two of them but we do still have a Norwich City signed shirt by this season’s squad to dispose of with a reserve price of £100.00. If you would be interested in making an offer for this item please let me know and we will accept the highest bid received before a deadline date of Monday 8th October 2012. This would make a great Xmas present with all the proceeds going to Macmillan too!

Rogers & Norton Charity Golf Day

The 14th Annual Rogers & Norton Charity Golf Day in aid of MacMillan Nurses World's Biggest Coffee Morning will be held at Bawburgh Golf Club on Friday 14th September 2012. Entries have been good so far with 21 teams playing on the day although we do have vacancies for even more teams to take part and support this very worthy Charity and the excellent work that they do every day.

The entry fee for a team of four people is £220 which includes bacon roll and coffee on arrival, 18 holes of golf followed by a 3 course meal in the evening with prizegiving and there are some lovely prizes to be won. The added bonus of taking part is the opportunity to play for the Rogers & Norton Team and Individual trophies too!

We usually have a raffle too and in addition this year an auction of 3 items including a Norwich City FC shirt signed by this season's squad. There are various team and individual competitions taking place on the day as well as the usual nearest the pins and longest drive tests. Mark Spooner, the Professional at Bawburgh, has also kindly agreed to take on allcomers at the 4th hole for a "Beat the Pro" competition for an entry fee of a fiver with all proceeds going to the Charity and we are very grateful to him for his help.

The main emphasis for the event is however to enjoy the day and meet old and new friends whilst helping us to fundraise at the same time and Ian and his staff at Bawburgh are excellent at helping us achieve this.

We do have limited sponsorship opportunities on the day too if you are interested by placing banners on all 18 holes for a modest cost of £50 (except premium holes 1 and 18 which are £100) or sponsoring the nearest the pins and longest drive for the same fee and all proceeds from this go directly to MacMillan Nurses too. An application form is attached showing these opportunities to advertise your Company in more detail as well as an entry form for taking part too.

I hope to raise more money than last year's event and my target to beat is £3300 so if you would like to help me by having a good day out with us or simply sponsoring part of the day whilst helping the nurses please do get in touch. I welcome your support and if you need more details about the day please let me know.

The Rogers & Norton 30th Anniversary Charity Ball took place on Saturday 2nd June at Colney Hall and we are delighted to say it was a great success!

Thank you to all our guests and sponsors for your support and for celebrating with us our 30th Anniversary. The evening was one of the most successful Rogers & Norton balls in our history and you all helped make the night unforgettable.

With the help of over 400 guests we have raised approximately £10,000 to support our chosen charity Nelsons Journey and this figure continues to grow as we collect in further contributions arising from the Ball.

We will have some photographs and highlights from the night on our blog soon so keep checking for updates! We will also confirm the total amount raised for charity in due course.

For now, here's a glimpse of the marquee & some of our guests on the evening.

R&N donate photocopier to local charity

Rogers & Norton Solicitors have recently presented a colour photocopier to Nelsons Journey, the Charity that cares for children who have suffered bereavement in some form or other. The unit will help to speed up their administration tasks.  The copier was originally supplied by Photostatic Copiers and was surplus to the needs of the Solicitors Practice. Graham Knights, Practice Manager for the law firm commented "Nelsons Journey does some fantastic work in the local community without always receiving the recognition it deserves. We are delighted to help in this way by donating the copier to them". Kim Greensmith, Chief Exective Officer of Nelson's Journey said "We are very pleased that Rogers & Norton have helped us in this way as having our own photocopier has already made a difference to our administrative process, saving us time as well as money.  We operate on a relatively small income and every penny counts, in this case every copy counts!"

The photograph above shows Caroline Martin of Photostaic, Kim Chase of the Charity and Graham Knights, Practice Manager for Rogers & Norton at the presentation.

R&N Breakfast Club

Our next Breakfast Club to be held at the Theatre Royal Norwich on Tuesday September 7th.  I am delighted that Bryan Gunn, ex Norwich City and Scotland goalkeeper has agreed to be our speaker and I am sure that Bryan will continue the trend of excellent speakers that we have had at previous meetings.  Given his popularity around the city, I expect that seats will be sold very quickly and these will be allocated on a strict "first come first served" basis as usual upon receipt of your completed reply slip (please email Graham Knights to obtain one) and cheque for £12.50 payable to "Rogers & Norton".  We are restricted to seventy places at the breakfast so I would urge you to reply early if you intend to come along!

I look forward to seeing you at the Theatre on the 7th  September and would also like to give you dates and details of two further events that we are planning for your diary.

1. - Friday September 10th - Rogers & Norton Annual Golf Day in aid of Macmillan Nurses.  This event will be held as usual at Bawburgh Golf Club and all proceeds will go to this very worthy charity to co-incide with their World's Biggest Coffee Morning which we support every year.  There are still great sponsorship opportunities available to Companies by sponsoring a hole on the day at a reasonable cost of £50.00 and some team places are also available at an inclusive cost of £200.00 per team of four to include coffee and bacon roll on arrival, golf, 3 course dinner and prizes.  For further information about sponsoring or entering a team please contact me asap.

2. - Tuesday December 7th - Christmas Breakfast Club Meeting.  This event will be at the Theatre as usual and the speaker is yet to be announced.  This event also tends to be very popular.  More details in due course.

Kind regards

R&N Business Leaders Lunch

On the 14th June 2010 Rogers & Norton Solicitors hosted their 3rd Business Leaders Lunch.  The event took place at the Assembly House in Norwich when 72 guests enjoyed a splendid lunch prepared from the kitchen of Richard Hughes followed by a presentation by Jeff Halliwell, Managing Director of Bernard Matthews Foods Ltd in which he discussed the Company's turnaround programme and plans for the future.

The event, which was hosted in association with the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce was a great success and plans are already in place for a similar function later in the year.

Commenting on the event Mark Hambling, partner said "I am delighted that so many people from the local business community joined us for a delightful lunch in pleasant surroundings to listen to Jeff's interesting presentation.  Can I thank both Jeff Halliwell and Richard Hughes for making the event such a success".

If you wish to be kept informed about the next lunch please contact our Practice Manager Graham Knights (tel 01603 675618 or gjk@rogers-norton.co.uk) for further details and dates.

£3000 Raised for Macmillan Nurses!

Macmillan Cancer Support in Norfolk has received a welcome boost thanks to the effort of over 100 golfers who took part in a special event in September last year.

Just over £3,000 was raised at our Annual Charity Golf Day held at Bawburgh as part of Macmillan’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ event. We have supported the Macmillan Coffee Morning for the last 11 years and have raised a substantial sum during this time thanks to the continued support of our clients and contacts for which we are very grateful.

"Rogers & Norton have once again surpassed themselves by organising their golf day to support us,” said Helen Chapman, Macmillan’s Fund Raising Manager. “Raising over £3,000 is fantastic, especially in the current economic climate. It is enough to fund our Mobile Information Centre to visit Norfolk for a day, bringing cancer information to the community or to fund a Macmillan nurse for just under a month. I would like to thank Rogers & Norton for holding the golf day and everyone who took part.”

Macmillan does such a superb job across Norfolk which is why we support their Coffee Morning every year. I am sure that is why people responded most generously on the day as they knew the money was going to such a worthy cause.

If you would like more information about our Golf Day or more details of the Charity please contact me (Graham Knights) on 01603 675618 or gjk@rogers-norton.co.uk.

R&N go to the Panto

We are delighted to let you know that our outing to the theatre on 14th January was a great success and we were able to take 25 children to see the Pantomime at Norwich Theatre Royal. The seats were offered to children through Nelson's Journey, a local Charity dedicated to supporting children in Norfolk who have experienced the death of a close family member or friend.

With the brilliant help of the Theatre Royal staff we were able to make it a really special event as the children were treated to a back stage tour and had their own tea party before enthusiastically enjoying the Panto!

The whole event was a great exercise in how a little effort and some well directed funds can bring so much enjoyment to children in real need of a lift at a very vulnerable time in their lives. We will certainly consider repeating the event next year as a result of this experience. More information about Nelson's Journey can be obtained from http://www.nelsonsjourney.org.uk.

Clare School Life Skills Room Grand Opening

We are delighted to be able to advise you that the project to renovate the Life Skills Room at the Clare School in South Park Avenue has finally been completed and officially opened by the Lord Mayor Cllr Eve Collishaw and The Right Hon. Charles Clarke MP on Friday 4th December 2009.

This project has taken almost three years to complete and was originally a fund raising idea by the Practice to help disadvantaged children at the School develop their culinary skills in what were very dated surroundings as no improvements had been carried out since the 1970s. We held a Grand Charity Ball in aid of the school in June 2007 at Drayton Old Lodge and raised a sum of just under £20,000 from the event. This has been added to other donations and grants to allow the refurbishment to take place.

We would like to take this opportunity to not only let all our clients and contacts know about the improvement but to say a big thank you to all those individuals and Companies who contributed in some way, large or small, towards making this happen. Without such support the renovation would not have been possible. We are including links to some photos and video footage of the speeches at the opening so you are able to see what has actually been achieved with the money and the enormous difference it will make to the children attending the School.

As a result of our liaison over the last three years we have become a Business Partner of the School which we hope will benefit the children in the future too.

If you would like further information about the School or the project please conact either the School Headmaster Nigel Smith at office@clare.norfolk.sch.uk or Graham Knights at Rogers & Norton gjk@rogers-norton.co.uk.

What's cooking at The Clare School ?

Something will be cooking at a special school in Norwich when the pupils return from their summer holidays!

The Clare School is about to have its old kitchen ripped out and a new one installed, partly funded by a £20,000 donation from Norwich based solicitors, Rogers & Norton.

It is a mixed, day Community Special School for pupils aged 3 to 19 years with special needs usually associated with physical disabilities and/or sensory impairments; many also have complex medical needs and learning difficulties.

“The current kitchen dates from the 1970s and presents us with a number of health and safety issues,” said Head Teacher, Nigel Smith.

“Now everything is being taken out and we will be having new windows, floors, cookers, units a special teaching area and all designed to be disability friendly.

“Cooking and food preparation is a vital part of the curriculum and to have modern, up-to-date facilities will greatly enhance the experience for our pupils. We will even have talking microwaves and scales to help visually impaired children.

“Work is just about to start and it will all be ready for pupils when they return to school in September.”

Added Graham Knights from Rogers & Norton, “We always look to support a local charity or good cause through money collected at our many fund raising events. The Clare School was mentioned as falling into that category so we came and met Nigel and were very impressed with the work he and his team do.

“The kitchen certainly needed some work done to bring it up to modern standards so we are delighted the money is going to such a worthy project and I look forward to coming back in September to see it finished.”

Rogers & Norton Charity Golf Day 2008

Cancer care in Norfolk has been given a boost thanks to the efforts of over 100 golfers who took part in a special event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. A total of £3,100 was raised at the Rogers & Norton Charity Golf Day held at Bawburgh as part of Macmillan’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ event. “The money will now be used to provide better care and information for the people of Norfolk,” said Helen Chapman, Macmillan’s Fund Raising Manager. “We have a mobile information centre which tours the villages and market towns of Norfolk and last year we gave grants of over £70,000 to cancer sufferers in the county. Our thanks go to Rogers & Norton for their valuable support.”

Added Graham Knights from Rogers & Norton, “Unfortunately almost everyone will know someone who has been affected by cancer and that’s why people responded most generously on the day to support the fantastic work Macmillan continues to do. “We are already planning to run a similar event next year.”
